Embarking on a journey in the realm of creative expression, Tejas Doshi’s name harmoniously resonates with his passion for illuminating spaces. Originating from the vibrant city of Calcutta, India, his enduring fascination with the transformative power of light inspired his trajectory as a lighting designer.
In 2016, a pivotal milestone marked Tejas’s career—becoming India’s first Certified Lighting Designer (CLD), and the 17th globally. Just two years later, he was honored as one of the world’s ‘40 under 40’ emerging lighting designers, a recognition that affirmed his commitment to challenging conventional boundaries and elevating global lighting design.
With a career spanning more than two decades, Tejas’s approach blends artistic intuition with technical mastery. Each project becomes a canvas for storytelling—shaping atmospheres that are immersive, purposeful, and emotionally resonant. His designs consistently push beyond aesthetics, placing sustainability and sensory experience at their core.
A defining signature of Tejas’s work is the thoughtful integration of spiritual and Ayurvedic principles, which bring depth and harmony to the spaces he illuminates. His commitment to holistic design reflects a rare ability to infuse meaning and mindfulness into the built environment.
As the Founder of Light & Beyond LLP, Tejas leads a global lighting design practice through seven studios located in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Calcutta, Vienna, Lisbon, Kiev, and Birmingham. Each of these studios reflects the cultural context of its location, acting as vibrant hubs of collaboration, experimentation, and innovation. His global footprint stands as a testament to his dedication to excellence and impact within the lighting design community.
His leadership contributions also include serving as the Regional Head of the IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers) India Chapter, where he played an instrumental role in shaping the local professional landscape. Since 2012, he has passionately conducted lighting design workshops for architectural and interior design students, directly educating and inspiring more than 3000 aspiring professionals across India.
His mentorship was formally recognized in 2023 when he was selected as one of the Mentors for the prestigious Silhouette Awards, a global platform dedicated to nurturing emerging talent in lighting design.
Tejas is also a long-standing professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Dark Sky Association since 2015–2016. These affiliations reflect his alignment with ethical design practices and global sustainability standards.
Among his most impactful initiatives is Litespire, India’s largest independent lighting design workshop held in Guntur. This unique event brought together professionals, students, and thinkers from across the country, and was proudly shortlisted for the internationally acclaimed darc awards.
At the heart of Tejas Doshi’s journey lies a philosophy: lighting is not merely about visibility—it is a silent storyteller that can awaken emotion, guide energy, and transform experience. Each project he touches reflects that belief, making his work not only relevant but deeply human.
